    I will try to explain the best I can in what is happening and what I am looking for. First off I was forced to move server to a different data center so required me to purchase a new box. I will explain my old box first.

    I had everything working great for years there.

    Basically the server I was running had my own DNS servers and it ran great.
    ns1.mydomain.com
    ns2.mydomain.com

    I would use the DNS servers on my home PC instead of my providers DNS because they were consistently having issues. I was able to access the internet with no problems for my domain name resolving.

    Now on the new box I attempt to do the same thing and I can only access the domains on the box by mydomain.com but if I try to access let say google.com it just times out.

    Any guidance on how to resolve this would be deeply appreciated.

    Hello :)

    To clarify, did you use the IP addresses on your server as DNS resolvers on your own personal machine? Or, is there another setup you are seeking?

    Thank you.

    thank you... not exactly understanding the recursion thing.

    can you lay out an example? That thread is a little confusing

    include "/etc/rndc.key";

    controls {
    inet 127.0.0.1 allow { localhost; } keys { "rndc-key"; };
    };

    acl "trusted" {
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
    127.0.0.1;
    };

    options {
    directory "/var/named";
    dump-file "/var/named/data/cache_dump.db";
    statistics-file "/var/named/data/named_stats.txt";
    version "not currently available";
    // allow-recursion { trusted; };
    allow-notify { trusted; };
    allow-transfer { trusted; };
    };

    Thanks
