When I click Edit DNS zone, I see 4 zones: mydomain.com, ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com, and hostname.mydomain.com.
1. I know the needs for the first 3 but what is the hostname.mydomain.com zone for?
2. If I would to use remote dns , say with godaddy where mydomain.com is registered, can I remove all of them?

Thank you.

Hey there! The hostname zone gets set up when the server is first configured, just in case you never actually create mydomain.com. You can remove the hostname zone if you want as long as you make sure another zone has the hostname record.

If you are using remote DNS you won't want to remove the zones as the cPanel services still expect those to be there, but you could disable the DNS service in WHM >> Service Manager if you'd like to save some resources on the machine.
