    Hi there,

Recently started using cPanel and am still finding my way around.

I've done a full back up on a site and am just wondering if that means that it has also backed up the clients emails?

    Please say yes!!

    Thanks.

    Thanks for that.

It's really put my mind at ease.

Could you elaborate on "backed up the clients emails" ?

If I understand correctly, the backup just backs up a snapshot of the mail that is in the mailbox at the time of the backup. Mail that has arrived since the backup would not be in the backup. Mail that was read and deleted with a mail reader program before the backup is gone as well. Mail that was received and read and deleted after the backup is gone from the computer too.

Are you actually looking to archive the email permanently for some government requirement?

    Hi David,

    Thanks for that.

I need to find out if the mail that was read but still held on the site would be backed up? Also, if it is a snapshop that was backed up, does that mean that only the message headers and address' were saved?

Thanks for your advice and help.

    Alan.

    Go on, have a guess
It simply backs up whatever email is in the accounts mailbox file at the time the backup was taken. Since POP3 email should be retrieved in full when POPed it's only going to contain new email since the account was last POPed. If the user uses IMAP and leaves email on the server, then it will backup whatever emails have been left on the server.
