Hi, sometimes i have migranes and its hard for me to look at the bright white background of the code editor. I typically will either put on some shades or darken the display when this happens. I have seen some third party code editors that have dark backgrounds on the coding page, does cPanel offer anything like that to make the code editor background dark with colored text?

Thanks

This is a great question and something I personally use for everything (Dark Mode specifically)

You can enable dark mode in the Editor if you're using the newest Editor version. The steps to do so are as follows:

  1. Go to cPanel -> Files -> File Manager -> Select File -> Select Edit (Do not select HTML Editor)
    Edit.png
  2. Once you've opened the Editor you can select the button on the top left of the page - Open Keyboard Shortcuts which will open up to the following reference page: ajaxorg/ace which shows all available Keyboard Shortcuts.
  3. Look for the box titled Other then Show the settings menu in the action Column - this will give you the shortcut for your OS - for me it's Command,
  4. Click the Whitespace in the editor and enter the shortcut
  5. Once the settings menu is up on the right hand side you should be able to modify the theme to Twilight as follows to get a dark mode effect: darkmode_ace_editor.png

Please let me know if that helps!

The ace editor is pretty new, but to be honest, I didn't know about this either until I started poking around. I wish it came up in the sidebar by default or that changing the theme was an option in the toolbar on the top, but it's not customizable that way.

I'm glad it's helping! Staring at bright white light kills my eyes as well, so I empathize with you completely.

Hey Lauren i found a dark goldmine and wanted to share it with you as i know you like dark pages too. I stumbled onto this but its sooooo awesome..

Find the firefox extension called "dark background and light text" It changes all the backgrounds to dark even cpanel displays, editor pages, menus, everything and it looks
wonderful with light blue eand white test. So no matter where you go on the web you can enjoy dark pages :)

Now on the chrome side they have one also but it is not as good, its close but some elements on the page it does not change. Also with the chrome version you have to toggle the page from normal to dark. You load it normal and then click the provided icon to turn it dark. The chrome extension is called "super dark mode"

I also found that you can also set windows 10 to dark as well, that is in the personalization menu, just choose dark mode and all the menus and stuff will change. And lastly windows store also has a extension to make the default windoes notepad (not notepad ++ ) dark as well...

Just thought i would share... :) catch ya later

I use Mac for work and it has a dark mode as well but I'll definitely check out the Firefox extension! So much easier on the eyes when you look at a computer screen, thanks for letting me know about that!

I also spoke to one of our PO's about consistent dark mode when you select Dark Mode for your Paper Lantern theme (including file manager, editors, etc.) I've got to check back in with them but when I get any information on whether or not that's possible/going to be done I'll let you know.
