Does having the same username and domain have an effect on email?

& Here's the problem: I have a customer that has a domain his

domain is: domain123.com
username is: domain123

Therefore, his email address is:
[email protected]

This is causing some problems emailing to certain users. Very wierd. Any other experiences or any solutions.
