Does proxy traffic have to go thru the primary IP?

I have been at this for 10 hours and I can't figure this out. I have scoured Google for an answer, but no luck so far...

I have a dedicated server with 10 IPs.

I am trying to setup a couple private proxy servers on IP9 and IP10.

When I go to and echo $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'], I see IP10.

But when I open via the above domain acting as a proxy, I see IP1 when I echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'], not IP10.

Any suggestions? Does proxy traffic have to go thru the primary IP or am I missing something with my DNS configurations or something else?

My custom nameservers both at my registrar and in WHM only reference IP10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope this post makes sense.
