can anyone help me solve this error
dovecot: auth (default): Failed to getpwnam for user
all directories are permission with the correct user: mail, still does not work more authentication pop3

Silly question if I may. Are you speaking of an actual user having login issues, or something you see in your logs? I'm seeing lots of this in my logs recently and they're attempts to login to accounts by users who shouldn't be logging in. Where your error above states user, in my logs the username is different constantly and not a valid user on my systems.
