Hi, wondering if anyone could help me figure out a way I could run a local version of my server for testing? Right now I'm thinking about upgrading MySQL 5.7 to 8.0, but worried because there are so many old applications running on the server. I'm not concerned about the sites on the local testing server being accessable from the internet, only locally. The main questions are:
  1. Can I do this with a single license? or would I have to purchase a second license for the testing server?
  2. How sure can I be that the local changes would accurately reflect the changes on the main server?
  3. Is there a way to process the changes on the local server and upload the changes to the main server after everything is verified?
  4. Could I use some kind of cloud option rather than a local server that might be better?
  5. A bunch of other stuff that I'm probably not thinking about, but maybe you have a suggestion? lol
Thanks in advance for your help!

HI there,

just click on this link and fill out the information for a developers lic. then you can use that for testing. I believe you can get 2 if you need. I have one for almalinux and one for ubuntu testing of cPanel

you will need to provide them with 1 ip for each license.

I think question 4 is maybe your best bet - some hosting provider offer a "clone" option where you can create a server from an existing machine. If you could that, that would be the ideal situation to test with since you'd be certain everything is the exact same.

It would be worth reaching out to your hosting provider or datacenter to see what options they have for that.

The server does need an active license, but as @Spirogg said you can get a development license if necessary.
