E-mail Filters - how often do they run?

Hello,

We have set up some e-mail filters in cPanel but I would like to know how often they are processed and if this can be increased?

My issue is that I have some filters set up to perform actions on e-mails that meet certain criteria however quite often when I check my e-mails first thing in the morning, the e-mails which should have been processed are still sitting in my inbox. When I come back a couple of hours later, they have disappeared i.e. the filters have now run. I would like to increase the frequency that the rules are processed if possible?

Kind regards

Hey there! Email filters don't "run" as they aren't a daemon or a process - they should get called and acted on as each message gets handled by the mailserver and is delivered.

Can you get me more details on specifically what you are filtering and what happens after the delay?

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Weirdly what appears to happen is...

Rule 1
This is set up to identify certain e-mails and if it does, it forwards them on to a temporary e-mail account which we are using to test that the filters work. These e-mails never seem to appear in our inbox i.e. the rules process the messages immediately on receipt

Rule 2
What we have been doing is testing rules using the above method and once confident they are working, we then change the filter so that instead of forwarding the e-mail to the test account, it discards the message instead. These are the messages which seem to linger in the inbox for a while. The same thing happened this morning. I checked my e-mails at 6a.m. and some of these messages were in the inbox however a couple of hours later, they had disappeared so it seems that the 'discard' rules do not process immediately.

I hope that all makes sense!

It makes complete sense, but I don't have a good explanation for the behavior you're seeing. Could you open a ticket with our team so we could take a look directly at your machine and see if we can help track down this behavior?
