Hello,

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me with something.

We are trying to tighten up on e-mail security as our server has been listed on e-mail blacklists a couple of times in recent months.

We've changed a number of settings and now I am doing daily monitoring for a while to ensure that we have caught everything we need to.

One thing that I am curious about is the 'View Sent Summary' e-mail report. When I run the report for the last 48 hours, I see over 5,000 e-mails that were sent, 1,500 of which are listed as 'failures'. The username in the 'user' column is '-remote-'.

Could someone explain what this means please and is it something that I should be worried about?

Kind regards

James

Hello James,

The remote user appears in cases where the email was sent out of the server and the sender is not local to the cPanel server. You should be able to click on the individual email summary to get a better idea of what was sent.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. What do you mean by 'not local'?
Hello James,

These are senders from outside of the server sending to local recipients. Clicking -remote- in WHM >> View Sent Summary should provide you with an example of one of these messages. Feel free to post one here (excluding real domain names and IP addresses) and we can explain how it applies to that specific message.

Thank you.
