I am in the process of transferring my hosting to a new cPanel server. In the transfer two accounts were set up with the a DNS Zone for the hosting of DNS which have their DNS hosted elsewhere.

All I need is an "A" record but I cannot delete the nameserver records and although I have deleted the MX record it states on update that it will serve as the primary mail server for this domain. How can I set this DNS record up correctly?

If you're not hosting the DNS zone, then you don't need to worry about the A record. Your server will never be consulted during the domain resolution process.

Instead, the domain owner will need to update the A record wherever their DNS is hosted at. You can leave your zone file at the default.
