Edit the Configure FTP Client settings?

In cPanel when you go to FTP-accounts there is a link that is named Configure FTP Client. There you can download configuration files for your FTP client and also see what information you should use to connect.

The problem is that the server defaults to ftp.maindomain.com. Is it possible to change that to the hostname of the server instead?

And if not, is it possible to turn off the Configure FTP Client option so that the link disappear?

Hello @Erik Ellsinger,

We actually have an internal case open (CPANEL-16238) to address an issue where the "Configure FTP Client" settings do not display the expected settings for FTPS. For instance, if you try to connect to ftp.domain.tld via FTPS, you will get a certificate mismatch error because FTP does not serve domain-specific certificates in response to TLS SNI requests. Can you verify if that's the issue you are attempting to solve?

Note that we don't offer a supported method to disable the "Configure FTP Client" feature, or to modify the settings that are utilized. There's a feature request open for ability to do so at:

FTP manual configuration information

Thank you.

@cPanelMichael is there any effort underway to serve domain-specific certificates when connecting via FTPS? (to stop clients from getting "mismatched certificate" errors every time they connect via FTPS)

Hello Scott,

While we don't have a specific time frame to offer on it's availability, it's on our radar for ProFTPd. You can follow the progress at the corresponding feature request:

SNI support for FTP

Thank you.
