This is happening on our servers as well. NeoMail won't let us in.

I'm told POP is having a similar issue.

It isn't happening with every account, and the only thing I've observed is that the ones with more stuff (4MB+) are affected, and not any of the smaller accounts I've checked. But it's been an unscientific study. I mention it here in the hopes of maybe pointing people in the right direction.

size doesnt seem to be the problem

It seems to hang on the "Authorizing..." step in outlook, then it goes to the pop server hasnt responded in 60 seconds message.

I have emailed cpanel, its been about a week..no response from them.

It cant be an outlook problem cuz i cant connect with neomail or horde either.

Does anyone now why it might not be "authorizing"?

It doesnt even say invalid username and password.(i know its the correct password)

Been having odd mail issues off and on here too. Can you access the e-mail via IMP (horde)? If not, try moving the inbox file for that account (if it's a mail account that was created via the account's cpanel, then make sure it's the inbox file inside the mail/domain.com/user/ directory). Create a new inbox file, give it the same ownership & permissions as the old file and then put the contents of the old file into the new inbox file. Also remove any inbox.lock files if there are any there.

It's just a lock file that basically tells other programs trying to access the file that the lock is for, "This file's in use, come back later."

I saw something similar. I ended up having to clear out the mailbox to fix the problem. To do this, i deleted inbox and inbox.pop, then created blank versions and then corrected ownership and permissions.

I'm having the same problem! It only happens to one POP3 account in the domain. I've tried erasing inbox.pop and inbox.lock, and cleaning the inbox. Nothing. My maillog shows

    Mar 25 09:42:46 HOST cpanelpop[3304]: Password failure for user=ACCT homedir=/home/USER passwd=/home/USER/etc/DOMAIN/shadow
    Mar 25 09:42:46 HOST cpanelpop[3304]: User not found user=ACCT homedir=/home/USER2 passwd=/home/USER2/etc/shadow

    where USER != USER2!!! Telnet'ting to port 110:

    telnet localhost 110
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
    Connected to localhost.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    +OK POP3 [DarkORB cppop 3.0] at [127.0.0.1]
    user ACCT@DOMAIN
    +OK Need a password
    pass XXXX
    ... HANGS!

This is definitely a bug, Nick.

I've had the same problem for the past month or so. It's getting to be two accounts a day now. This really needs to be fixed ASAP or give us a work around or something.

    Daniel!! My man from NC!!

Try restarting the IMAP server, if that doesnt work try pop and exim(for kicks)

If that doesnt work send an support ticket in with ATTN: Darren in the subject line, follow up with a phone call to cpanel

I am not sure exactly how Darren fixes it.

    Daniel, did restarting IMAP work?

Darren said he killed a hanging IMAP process, I am not sure how he found that process though.

I had this same problem drove me nuts for 3 days and as normal Cpanel support was MIA on the problem.

One of the techs at pwebtech was able to point me to the problem and fix it in 5 minutes.

In Cpanel, a hard link is required between
/home/username/mail/user/inbox and /home/username/mail/domain.com/user/inbox which was missing.

Added the hard link problem solved.

Thanks, techark. But I've checked that too in my case. I'm pretty sure by now it's a cppop bug of some sort.

    Both

    /home/USER/mail/POPACCOUNT/inbox

    and

    /home/USER/mail/DOMAIN/POPACCOUNT/inbox

files should have the same inode number. You can check the inode number doing a

    ls -i

    on them.
