    Hi,

I have set up lots of email accounts for people on XP machines with no problem using the manual settings supplied by cpanel.

However I am having real hassle setting up accounts on Vista machines running vista mail.. and I've no idea why.

I supply clients with the details from cpanel... and run through the set up over the phone with them.

These are the manual settings cpanel supplies me with; I also obviously send them the password.
They tick 'server requires authentication' (i've tried this ticked and unticked)

    They can receive emails without a problem. But when they try and send emails they get this error message;
I used exactly the same details on my XP machine and it works without problem. But not on two of my clients Vista machines.

The server is open and listening on port 25:

    telnet mail.specialistpsychology.co.uk 25 Trying xx.xx.xxx.xx...
    Connected to mail.specialistpsychology.co.uk.

Does anyone know why this isnt working? Has anyone set up email accounts on vista machines using cpanel email accounts... ?

    Best Regards

Please make sure that the SMTP Port address is not blocked in your Vista machine or by their ISP. You can also try to use the SMTP open port address 587 and have a try.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.
SMTP is not blocked on the machine or by the ISP.
Other email accounts are working fine (hotmail and another email with a different host)
Its just the email on my cPanel account that doesnt work.

My machine is open and listening on port 25 and runs many other email accounts on XP and even win98 machines.

Reference: Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail error codes

Per the error code from Windows Live Mail, ("0x800CCC0E"), something is causing the connection attempt to fail on SMTP port 25.

Please setup an alternate SMTP port for Exim via WHM Service Manager, and then try using the alternate port to connect; two common alternate ports that could be configured are 26 and 587.

Are you able to send via SMTP using other e-mail accounts that are hosted on the same server, both from the same Windows computer and from other workstations?
