    Hello,

i am a little new to Cpanel and my host does not know it well, so maybe someone out there has an idea.

My server is running fine except for my email, Exim is running and i can set up the email accounts, outlook will go in and check the account fine, but cannot send a test email.

No emails can be sent to any account on my server, i hope someone has an idea of what to check , i have never seen this issue before.

    Bill

I take it by the post. Outlook Checks the pop account fine. However when you try to send msgs using that account it gives you an error like unable to connect to outgoing mail server. Or does it let you send the msg but never comes back?

It says to check the email address and does not send it. if i send an email to the address it does not bounch back, just goes nowhere.

You really need to look at your /var/log/exim_mainlog files (on a Linux server) and watch what's going on when you send/receive email for errors.

If your server provider can't help (which is a little odd) you might want to hire someone to sort it out for you.

Ok, I was getting errors when I restarted exim about exim.conf not being found, so I fixed that..

    root@one [/]# /etc/init.d/exim restart
Shutting down exim: [ OK ]
Shutting down antirelayd: [ OK ]
Shutting down spamd: [ OK ]
    Starting exim: [ OK ]
    Starting exim-smtps: [ OK ]
    Starting antirelayd: [ OK ]
    Starting spamd: [ OK ]

but when I check service status in cpanel, it says exim failed.

Service status seems to lag being updated. Does ps -U maillnull tell you exim is running?

    hmm..

    I did it again just a second ago and got this;

    root@one [/]# ps -U mailnull
    PID TTY TIME CMD
    2942 ? 00:00:00 eximstats
    25418 ? 00:00:00 exim
    25478 ? 00:00:00 exim
    27693 ? 00:00:00 exim
    28207 ? 00:00:00 exim

    root@one [/]# ps axf | grep -v grep | grep exim
    2942 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximstats
    25418 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/exim -bd -q60m
    27693 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/sbin/exim -bd -q60m
    28207 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/sbin/exim -bd -q60m
    25478 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/exim -tls-on-connect -bd -oX 465

    and now again;

    root@one [/]# ps -U mailnull
    PID TTY TIME CMD
    2942 ? 00:00:00 eximstats
    25418 ? 00:00:00 exim
    25478 ? 00:00:00 exim

    root@one [/]# ps axf | grep -v grep | grep exim
    2942 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximstats
    25418 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/exim -bd -q60m
    25478 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/exim -tls-on-connect -bd -oX 465

very weird, I try to "attempt to deliver all messages" and it says "complete" but really none of them go.. but SOME of them, when I hit "devlier" on just that message, do go through.. if they are actually delivered im not sure.. but its removed from queue.
