One of my clients is saying that email being forwarded from his domain to an external POP account (ie, his personal ISP account) is being delayed for 12 hours or more.

Deleting the forward and re-adding it worked initially, but I believe it is now once again being delayed.

Is there a common cause for this? Or can someone help me pinpoint the cause?

    Thanks!
    Mark

Tough to say what the issue is. However exim does come with some decent diagnostic tools to help you figure out what the issue is.

Try the following using the address mail is being forwarded to:

    exim -bt user@domain.com

That should output the destination hostname, that it's external, etc. As well as output errors as well.

You should also try to send mail to that forwarded account to see if it's being held up somewhere else. You can do this with:

    echo "Test email - ignore." | mail -v user@domain.com

This will give you a ton of information that can help figure things out.
