Email id from root user

Hello everyone,

Hopefully a simple question from a newby. :)

When testing my system I noticed that when an email is sent from a particular email account, the email message comes from "Root User" rather than something like "Billing at ..domain name".

Looking at my email accounts, I do not see what might be causing this as the same code sends emails which arrive correctly i.e. [email protected]

I currently run a virtual machine running cpanel and my hosting company suggested that this is a server side issue. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your help,

Patrick

Hello :)

Ideally, you should setup a script to use SMTP authentication as the individual email account when sending out email.

Thank you.

The 'from' user is determined by the script sending the email. Are these emails coming from an application, or the server itself (such as an alert from cpanel ,etc)
Thank you for your response.

The email is being sent from an application and I am assured by the developer that this is not a script issue as the same routine "sendmail" is used for all the application dispatched emails.

Is "root" used as a default description ? This is an example of what I am seeing:

Root User <[email protected]>

rather than say

Admin <[email protected]>

Thank you for any help in assisting my understanding of this issue,

Patrick
