I have a reseller account and one of the account's email (imap) was set to unlimited. The email account was up to 40 gigs when I noticed it. The overall limit for the account was set to 16 gigabytes. Could this be a glitch in Cpanel? I was able to verify the account space used as I moved it to gmail. 10 gigs of email was in the Inbox... and when transferred it was 10 gigs at Google. The remaining emails were in a folder named archive. I believe this folder was created by the client on their local machine... I assume the folder creation is mirrored to the server. Not sure why but the emails in the that folder were in triplicate, copies of the ones in the inbox. Which makes perfect sense with it being at 30 gigs.

I just thought I would bring to everyone's attention as it could be quite a problem if email accounts can somehow exceed the overall disk quota for the account. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Hello :),

I think Email Archiving support is enable on your server and due to that you are getting this disk space issues.

Try to check it through cPanel >> Mail > Email Archiving

Hello :)

The email archiving system does not archive messages that you receive before you enable the the archiving feature. Did the account show up as at it's disk space limit, or was it behaving in a way that it had an unlimited quota?

Thank you.

This was in a reseller account... I do not think archiving was enabled. The individual email account was set to unlimited, the overall cpanel account was set to 16 gigs.

the overall cpanel account was set to 16 gigs.
For instance, when you noticed the issue, could you still upload new files to the account, or was it behaving like an account at it's quota limit? This sounds like an issue with quota on the system, as opposed to cPanel not enforcing the limits.

Thank you.

I've been unable to reproduce this issue on a test system. Is it something you can still reproduce on your server? If not, please let us know if you encounter this issue again so we can take a closer look.

Thank you.

Thanks for looking into this issue. I have since removed that particular account, I switched the domain over to use Google apps. If I encounter this issue again I will post back. One thing I did not mention previously is that this particular account's email would have had many large email attachments...

The large email attachments should not make a difference in the quota limitation issue. Feel free to reply back if this happens again.

Thank you.
