It looks like I did not have an open relay afterall. A couple things factored in.

1) I had been authenticated within 30 minutes of trying to perform an open relay test.

2) There were a number of accounts on the server using the default e-mail function for catchall which was generating a false positive for web tests.

I performed the upgrade and everything tests fine now.
