A client brought to my attention that all of the email accounts on her account was not working.

I checked the mail queue and it was empty, so i proceeded to click on the repair/rebuild mailboxes in WHM... however i got this error going all the way down the page:

/home/user/etc/userdomain.net/shadow is a link. Not changing ownership.
/home/user/etc/userdomain.net/passwd is a link. Not changing ownership.

and its going all the way down the page.

Also when they try to use outlook they are receiving this message:
Task 'Groups - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC6A) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 451 Temporary local problem - please try later'

    and

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'user@domain.com', Server: 'mail.domain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I'm not exactly sure where to look, or start troubleshooting.. can anyone advise?

    Thank you in advance.

My server management company said they had to disable Exiscan+ClamAV, because it wasn't working correctly with the new cpanel.

I'm running the latest stable, is this happening to anyone else?

you just need to restart clamd then you are in business again

its happen with one of my servers too. Once the week i need to restart clamd.
sometimes it comes up md5 checksum error all what you need then go in the exiscan clamd
    directory and run install.

leave the whm entries untouched. and all will work again.

    a Solution ?
waiting of the new update from Anand [ he is very busy at the moment ] but he was posting on the weekend come the new update.

Maybe he implement a clamd watch - which is emailing you the clamd is not working and/or restart clamd.

    hope this help.

    Hmmm
I call it more of a resistance to change unless it has something to do with the STABLE Tree as i have been running CURRENT w/o any problems whatsoever.

See if this can be of any help:

    Hello Anup

i am on a latest Stable tree now [ same issues ]
before i runing CURRENT [ same issues ] and also RELEASE with the same issues.
i dont know why its happen.

The Checksum MD5 errors i receive since current and stable tree.

the procedure above is only a fast way to sort this out.

[ after i receive this outlook message - to 100 % i login in the this server the clamd was stopped ]

There are other threads about this - but the jist is that the update from Cpanel two days ago "broke" a couple of items - including mailperm. The update from last night (or early am today) fixed that problem. If you have not run the update today (upcp) run it and this problem should go away.

I know mine and several others were.

    - i beleive that anand did a very great job -
in his thread some server has issues - because the double installing with clamupdater or something like this.

    - i have issues on a single box - but all the others which running many different versions of cpanel cant be wrong.

    my 2 cents

On a post on WHT, someone posted they receive the same problem everytime they do a cpanel update. From what they said Cpanel keeps overwriting the exim conf, and reverting it back to the oringinal. He also stated that one time the SMTP tweak was also causing mail problems.

Thank you for all the replies above though. I'm going to wait until cpanel releases the latest stable with the vulnerability fixes, and then install the new exiscan+clamav package, if it's out by then.

Okay the issue went away but now its back.

I ran tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog, and it's showing mail as being rejected, and the error below appears after each rejected email:

2004-10-23 16:17:16 1CLSKC-0000G6-QI malware acl condition: clamd: unable to con
nect to UNIX socket /var/run/clamav/clamd (No such file or directory)

I'm running clamav .80... can anyone advise me?

Thank you in advance for your replies

make sure you have stale sockets uncommented in the clamd config file. Restart clamd and then restart exim. I have listed somewhere in this thread a script to do this, so you can get the correct commands from the script.

<edit>oops not in this thread in anands thread</edit>

    These commands?

    rm -f /var/run/clamav/clamd
    /usr/sbin/clamd
    /scripts/restartsrv exim

    Are you talking bout this:

    # Remove stale socket after unclean shutdown.
    #Default: disabled
    FixStaleSocket

    ?
