Emails sent by cpanel when not MX

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me to understand what emails cpanel is sending using setup domains if cpanel is not used as MX or Nameserver for those domainst
No (user)mailboxes are setup for those domains either. Tough system mailbox cannot be removed ...

Do I still need to setup SFP and DKIM for cpanel ?

Hi, maybe i am thinking to complicated. I meant domains that are setup and used for webhosting in cpanel. If i don't use the integrated email features of cpanel, will there still be emails sent by cpanel using this domains ?

Thanks for the clarification. If you have your cPanel account's email handled elsewhere, the system can still send notifications about server problems to the admin.

Also, depending on the configuration of the web site, they may also send mail via the cPanel server (contact forms etc. on the web site). Most software (Wordpress, Joomla etc.) default to local relaying, but they can be configured to use external SMTP.

The system notifications are unrelated to the cPanel user accounts, so you don't have to worry about that.

Indeed that's something i am investigating as well. Is there a way to deny local relaying eventually on a per account base ?

You'd want to ensure that cPanel >> Email Routing is set to "remote" - this will ensure that if any messages are sent locally on the system, the machine looks to the MX and DNS records to handle the email.

I don't want to have installed software like wordpress being able to relay local. Is there a way to prevent this?

If all the domains on the server have that option set to "Remote" then no email will be delivered locally. Is that what you're looking for?
