I have an account that is having problems receiving email.

When sending mail to user@domain.com, it immediately bounces back to the sender with the error message of 'retry timeout exceeded'.

When I check the exim_mainlog, I see the following entry:

I have run /scripts/mailperm, no change.

I have checked /etc/localdomains, /etc/userdomains & /etc/remotedomains and they are all how they should be.

/etc/valiases/domain.com is configured correctly (set to fail). I have tried recreating the POP account, this has not helped either.

If the account in question is hosted on your server itself along with it's MX records, make sure the domain name entry is present in /etc/localdomains file but not in /etc/remotedomains file. Also make sure there is no redirect set for the domain in /etc/valiases/domain.com.

Restart the exim service once you make changes in localdomains or remotedomains file.
