    Hi.

I check my error logs usually every day. I have noticed the following message being repeated over and over again recently.

[Mon Jun 24 19:07:57 2002] [notice] cannot use a full URL in a 401 ErrorDocument directive --- ignoring!

Why is this error happening? Does this have to do with httpd.conf ?

    Thanks.

It means that someone has defined an ErrorDocument in their .htaccess using a complete URL (http://www.theirdomain.com/401.html) instead of a direct path (/home/username/public_html/401.html). Use of a complete URL for 401 error documents is not supported, and apache will ignore such directives, log it, and move on. It doesn't cause any problems for the system, but if the user actually has a custom 401 error document, it will not be shown unless they remove the URL and replace it with a path instead.
