Hey there!! "Index blocks for MyISAM tables are buffered and are shared by all threads. key_buffer_size is the size of the buffer used for index blocks. The key buffer is also known as the key cache."

There's several paragraphs in the documentation there that outline how this can be used an optimized, so it would likely be best to read those and see if it applies to your situation.

I understand the key buffer size. What I do not understand is the ~8B. Usually it will give you an < or >, never seen ~ before

Seems very strange. They are saying to adjust it about 8B

Variables to adjust:
key_buffer_size (~ 8B)
