    Try running:

    /scripts/ftpup pureftpd --force

    And note any errors here.

I have this same problem chirpy

It seems cpanel has latched onto proftp and wont let go.. The install for pureftp goes through however it ends up starting proftp again.

I don't want cpanel to use proftp, is there a way i can totally disable it from being a cpanel service?

After any upgrades I am forced to kill proftp then manually start pure ftp with /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd -B
    This is getting frustrating

Here is the result of my --force install

    Code:
    root@server [~]# /scripts/ftpup pureftpd --force

I would suggest going into WHM and switch to proftpd, then switch back to pure-ftpd again and see if that helps. If not, I'd log a ticket with cPanel to have them sort it out.
