Hi I am looking after a domain on cpanel. Everything is working fine.

The only problem I have is I am receiving excessive spam on a few of our email addresses.
I am new to cpanel so I may be missing something obvious.

SpamAssasin is turned on but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. I have just enabled the option to let SpamAssasin delete the messages instead of delivering. This may have been done in the past but I cant be sure.

Does anyone have any further advice to make sure SpamAssasin is doing its job correctly.

Thank you.

Forgot to mention

Also I forgot to mention that we have not installed cpanel ourselves.
We pay someone to host our site and email. It is simply a login to manage our account.

Sorry for the lack of info, but as I say I have literally just taken over this.

Is there something I can do from the user control panel to ensure SpamAssasin is managing my spam or do you recommend contacting whoever we have payed for this service.

Thank you.

Spam assassin should be labeling each email that comes into your domain. You can always change the sensitivity of spam assassin if you hist configure spam assassin. You can also write email filters through there as well.

Thank you for the reply rapidfire911.

Unfortunately we do not host it ourselves. SpamAssasin doesnt seem to be doing anything.

Last night I clicked the link to delete spam messages rather than label and deliver them, but it didn't work.

Maybe it's time to contact the hosts. I'll have a look at the filters, but judging by the amount of spam we get it will take a while to create all the filters.

Any other ideas ??

Cheers.

If Spamassassin is checking the mail then you will see some headers that start:

X-Spam-Checker-Version:
X-Spam-Level:
X-Spam-Status:

With some information on spamassassin and how it scored the email following this. If these are not present then spamassassin is not functioning and you should contact your host to find out why.

Thanks for the advice.

I will check the headers tomorrow and take it from there.

Thanks again, much appreciated.
