Exim 4 will not be offically supported until the cPanel 7 release (less then 60 days).

For those who want it now (linux only right now):

    1) Update to Edge 86 or later
    2) Run /scripts/exim4

lots of changes between exim3 and exim4

    Main differences are

Only transports and routers (no more directors)

localscan function which allows loadable modules written in compiled code (such as c say) kinda like kernel modules (although can only be specifed by the sysadmin)

acl system so you can determine what happens to messages on a per address level and is extremely powerful / flexible e.g. alias1@domain.tld could have just av scanning no rbl/spam checking say alias2@domain.tld could have rbl checking but no av or spam checking alias3@domain.tld could have all 3 plus blocking of questionable extensions (this one would be a bit hard to do if there were multi recipents), allow end users to pick and choose what bl's they use (from a list say) or none at all etc

Any problems with that edge release? I'm not going to upgrade right now because of the dangers of edge releases, but I'm just curious...

If ACL is going to be something new in Exim 4 then thats what is killing our current EXIM. Somehow last night it appears the configure from a "converted" exim file was upload/installed into our server along with other EXIM files. Now EXIM will not run and copying the old configure seems to work but mail is not delivered.

Can we manually upgrade to EXIM 4 if we are running 6.4.2-r-84 Freebsd ?

Can we downgrade if EXIM 4 will not work ??

    nyjimbo -

What version of FreeBSD are you using?

I had the same thing happen last night. On a server that is running BSD 4.8 that I used the cpanel 4.7 install tarball on.

Another server that I just reinstalled last night using the new cpanel 4.8 install tarball everything is fine.

FreeBSD 4.7, been on it since Jan 2003, only today are we having problems.

Seems that there are 4.0 Exim files but telnet to the port 25 shows we are running Exim 3.36

    I hate these auto updates.......

Waiting for them to answer my trouble ticket. Hope its just a quick fix, lots of complaints this morning from users........

    :(

You can force cpanel to rebuild exim4 if it failed to build by running

    /scripts/updatenow
    /scripts/rebuildeximbsd

you are a life saver. I did this and it really updated the system. Dont think it just did Exim but everything seems to be up and ruinning now. I will have to keep an eye on it and see if anything else got clobbered.

It looks like the exim port is broken on a few systems. This updates /usr/ports before it tries to build exim as sysup just builds.

I find it amusing that your posting here nick, when their are serious issues with the software which you will not address.

    Ie:

    - When an account is removed from the server it is not removed from the /backups
    - Same with logs

With multiple dns servers if a addon is deleted on a slave server it deletes the zone from the primary but fails to delete the zone from the slave server. We need to go in manually and remove each zone.

    Can these be addressed?
