When Exim runs and I watch it in TOP through SSH it take 99% CPU Load, can this be tweaked down some? If so how?

does it stay at 99% for a long time, or does it breifly go up as it does what it needs to?

it is not a long time, just went I see it in TOP that and it is 99% CPU, I guess I am just wondering is that normal. If I look in cpu//mysql/memory stats for exim they are low. So I guess there is nothing really to worry about.
