i would like to edit exim.conf and NOT have cpanel overwrite it when it updates. does anyone know the location of the exim.conf cpanel uses? so that i can edit directly to that in ssh, and not have to go thru whm.

The following will help you find it ;)

    locate exim.conf

    It's in /etc/exim.conf

However, if you edit it, it will get overwritten on an exim upgrade (either through /scripts/exim4 or /scripts/upcp). Using chattr also won't work as the upgrade scripts automatically chattr -i the file before upgrading it

So, the only way is to either:

    1. Using the Exim Configuration Editor in advanced mode through WHM

    2. Keep an eye on /etc/exim.conf and if it changes, do a diff on a copy of your existing one and the new one and merge your changes back in.

The cPanel Exim Configuration editor data is stored in:

    /etc/exim.conf.local
