    Hello,

    when cPanel updates Exim (or something) it rewrites exim.conf. I want to change the default smtp_banner config to not show the Exim version (for security reasons). I've changed all exim.conf.* files but when an update occurs, exim.conf is recreated with:

    smtp_banner = "${primary_hostname} ESMTP Exim ${version_number} \
    \#${compile_number} ${tod_full} \n\
    We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, \n\
    and/or bulk e-mail."

    I want to permanently modify it and change the default values of:

    deliver_queue_load_max = 3
    auto_thaw = 6d
    ignore_bounce_errors_after = 7d
    timeout_frozen_after = 8d

    with lower values.

    In the past, I've changed other configuration too, the "unknown user" message. This message I dont have problems, it's not rewrite when an update occurs. Looks like that only a piece of the "conf" file is recreated.

    So, where I need to change to apply permanently the smtp_banner and other configs default values?

    Thank you!!!

    Are you changing the exim.conf directly or using WHM?

    It is my understanding and experience that if you make the changes using the Advanced Configuration edit in WHM, the changes will be persistent through each update, BUT, if I change the exim.conf file directly, those changes will be overwritten.

    Anyone know if you can permamently change:
    deliver_queue_load_max

    in exim.conf? Just changing and setting +i attribute isnt the best way since exim may go faulty in an update.

    What if we add:
    deliver_queue_load_max=10

    somewhere farther down in the advanced configuration editor?

    You can make the change manually to exim.conf.local and the setting should be saved for future use when exim.conf is regenerated.

    Tried that on 11.15.0-R17659 by adding:
    Code:
    deliver_queue_load_max=10
    No change in exim.conf after using the exim configuration in WHM and saving.
