    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me why exim does not honour a 5xx error?

For example, here is a message currently in the queue....

    SMTP>> DATA
    SMTP<< 250 ok
    SMTP<< 250 ok
SMTP<< 354 go ahead punk, make my day
SMTP>> writing message and terminating "."
SMTP<< 554 The message was rejected because it contains prohibited virus or spam content
    SMTP>> QUIT

This email is still in the queue and keeps trying to deliver. Why does exim not see the 554 and ditch the mail? Why does it continue to attempt delivery? It should be a permanent failure shouldn't it?

    Cheers,

    Brad

    Can anyone comment on this?

Still, I have email in the queue that has received a 5xx error, yet exim continues to queue rather than reject/discard etc...

As above, we are queueing for a user that does not exist!

    Does anyone have any comments/resolutions?
