Exim failed by itself, in the exim_paniclog file I find:

2005-09-08 21:14:08 cannot run initgroups(): no passwd entry for uid=47
2005-09-08 21:14:43 cannot run initgroups(): no passwd entry for uid=47
2005-09-08 21:14:43 cannot run initgroups(): no passwd entry for uid=47

    What happened?

    I tried all the:

    /scripts/eximup --force

to no avail. I also moved from stable to the release branch.

    Please help!

    exim issue.

Looks like mailnull user is missing from the server. You need to run the follwing command..

    useradd -s /sbin/nologin -u 47 -d /var/spool/mqueue mailnull

    Go on, have a guess
Or running the following ought to sort it out:

    /scripts/eximup --force

I tried the /scripts/eximup already to no avail,

I also have a mailnull user:

    mailnull:x:32018:100::/home/users/mailnull:/bin/bash

I also tried removing the user mailnull and add it back with:

    useradd -s /sbin/nologin -u 47 -d /var/spool/mqueue mailnull

and I still get the same messages in my exim_paniclog file.

    exim error

remove your existing mailnull user and group, and add them again using the following command.

    groupadd -g 47 mailnull
    useradd -s /sbin/nologin -u 47 -g mailnull -d /var/spool/mqueue mailnull

    now, restart exim service..
