I had CHATTRed my exim.conf to non-writeable. Yet, some cpanel update overwrote it. Can someone please explain WHY this annoying antic must take place over and over again, and what I can do to avoid this? Thanks.

The cPanel scripts remove the immutable flag from files it updates as it can break cPanel as a whole. you need to either use the Exim Configuration Editor to make any changes that you want , or write a script that checks for changes and reapplies your changes afterwards. This has been the case for quite some time now.

    Thanks chirpy.

In view of this issue, does cpanel provide a sample script to check the file and reapply changes?

    I doubt it.

If you use the WHM Exim Configuration Editor, placing your edits into the textareas, it does not overwrite your configuration on update.

That;s what I do, and yes it does. Even despite a CHATTR.

Ah, well that's a completely different issue to the one you mentioned originally. If your changes in the Exim Configuration Edirot are being lost, then you should upgrade to the latest exim build:
    http://diff.cpanel.net/eximinstall/version

If it then still happens you should log it in bugzilla.

How should I upgrade to the latest EXIM without upgrading to the latest WHM? I'm on "WHM 10.1.0 / cPanel 10.2.0-R82" and am fairly happy with it.

Btw, I am not sure what is "different from my original question". Everything I have said in this thread is related to the issue of Cpanel over-writing my exim.conf file despite me having entered through the WHM as suggested and *in addition to that* chattr-ing it as well.

    Thanks for any ideas!
