I get alot of these emails from my forums that I host, my forums send out registration emails to verify email addresses but alot of them come back from yahoo or hotmail like this:

    Code:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

      [email]ianblumenthal@hotmail.com[/email]
SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<ianblumenthal@hotmail.com>:
host mx4.hotmail.com [65.54.167.230]: 550 Requested action not taken:
        mailbox unavailable

I know for a fact that atleast some of those are VALID emails, as I have staff that get notification emails and the same thing happens...

I have no idea what is wrong and have searched around and a little and have come up with nothing, this is an ongoing process and has clogged my mail queue several times... Can somebody please offer some help?

    Thanks.

    permanent error - mailbox unavailable

It maybe that the account was closed -- at least, that's the way I read it. If you are confident the address is valid, why not send an msg. using Outlook or OE and see what happens.

Its quite likely, as hotmail expires accounts fast, but yahoo doesn't... I got an email last night, so things seem to be working for now... I guess everybody has that trouble of the people who signup with invalid emails :(

I have had the system admins try an figure it out, they say all is fine an I am compliant yet, NO emails go into my hotmail accounts. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if this is very relevant but make sure you have reverse dns enabled... I'm not sure about hotmail but i know for a fact no @aol.com or @aim.com users will get your mail if your server doesn't have reverse dns.

I don't know about sending via outlook it's that way when sending from PHP scripts...
