I've been getting a message in /var/log/exim_rejectlog for the last few days about the same message:

2005-07-05 15:17:38 H=(mx1.dnsmadeeasy.com) [205.234.170.138] sender verify defer for <[email protected]>: host lookup did not complete
I've also been getting a message in /var/log/messages that seems to be related:

Jul 5 15:37:03 host named[30020]: lame server resolving 'partnerdd.external.hp.com' (in 'partnerdd.external.hp.com'?): 192.151.52.205#53
If I look at the mail queue in WHM, I don't see anything. But this e-mail seems to be stuck in between being delivered or being rejected.

What can I do about this?

Nothing much until the remote DNS becomes available. So long as your DNS resolution is working OK, then it's a fault at the other end of the line.

I checked it at dnsstuff.com, here's the result:

How I am searching:
Searching for partnerdd.external.hp.com NS record at d.root-servers.net [128.8.10.90]: Got referral to L.GTLD-SERVERS.NET. [took 8 ms]
Searching for partnerdd.external.hp.com NS record at L.GTLD-SERVERS.NET. [192.41.162.30]: Got referral to ap1.hp.com. [took 19 ms]
Searching for partnerdd.external.hp.com NS record at ap1.hp.com. [15.211.128.50]: Server failure! [took 1100 ms].

Answer:
Server failure. There's a problem with the DNS server for partnerdd.external.hp.com.
If/when that DNS comes back to life, this e-mail will be delivered? Is there any way to just kill it? The message, I mean, not the DNS.

It will eventually be delivered if it can - the queuing system in exim runs (by default) once an hour and tries on a sliding hour scale for 4 days to deliver such emails. I'd suggest just leaving it there. If you really want to delete it, you can do so through WHM > Manage Mail Queue.

When I take a look at "Manage Mail Queue" in WHM, it says there are no messages in the queue. However, I'm still getting these error messages in /var/log/messages and /var/log/exim_rejectlog.
