Getting the following error when trying to start exim via SSH (trying via cpanel simply produces a page full of error messages that looks like the recent error log entries...):

    Code:
    Starting exim: [ OK ]
    Starting antirelayd: [ OK ]
Starting spamd: Could not create INET socket: Cannot assign requested address
IO::Socket::INET: Cannot assign requested address [FAILED]

    Any ideas? :(

A couple of lines from /var/log/exim_paniclog should this help?

    Code:
2003-04-12 22:06:44 socket bind() to port 25 for address (any IPv4) failed: Address already in use: daemon abandoned
2003-04-13 02:32:16 failed to expand condition"${perl{checkspam}}" for lookuphost router: Undefined subroutine &main::checkspam called.

    Run:

    netstat -anp | grep 25

See what is binding port 25. If it's not exim, do a kill -9 on the PID and try starting exim.

Yes, that looks normal. Maybe try:

    killall -9 exim
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/exim restart

Probably won't work, but it can't hurt.

Since nothing is working I guess you could try downgrading/upgrading Exim. That's helped some people with problems. If you haven't done that yet:

    /scripts/newexim
    /scripts/upcp

    Thanks, I'll try that... :)

Ok, running the newexim script, but it's sitting on the line:

    Code:
checking for suffix of object files...

And has been for a few minutes now. Is this normal behaviour?

    No, that's not.

You might want to submit a support ticket at this point.

Yeah, I did yesterday - but I guess support doesn't work on weekends, and I need this working asap...

    DOH! :)

Thanks anyway - very much appreciated!

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd be interested in hearing them...

Did you end up solving this? I have the same problem on one server.

My host got POP working, but exim is still not processing emails to local domains (they just sit in queue). I ended up with over 15,000 emails in queue which I deleted (3 days worth of database errors - another issue altogether;)). Now to just get mail flowing through the pipe!

Are the local domains listed in /etc/localdomains? They won't deliver if they aren't.

    Ok, I decided to try

    /scripts/newexim
    /scripts/upcp

    one more time.

While running newexim, I get the following spammed across the screen:

2003-04-15 16:08:53 195VRo-0003jG-00 Error in message_filter file: failed to open "/etc/antivirus.exim": No such file or directory

/etc/antivirus.exim is there, but it's empty... could this be our problem?
