I'm using external DNS servers for my cPanel hosting. Is it possible to park a domain, and what is the general idea how to do it?

You could park a domain in cPanel > Parked Domains area. By using external DNS servers, do you mean that you do not have actual nameservers on the cPanel machine to control DNS at all? If you do not, then you'll have to either set the domain at the external DNS location, or you'd have to set the A record for the parked domain to the account's IP.
