I've seen lots of references to Chirpy's Why you should use :fail: on this forum and elsewhere. Problem is, at least on our servers (cPanel 10.8.1-S114), that isn't what :fail: does. Domains setup with :fail:, do process the invalid emails and do generate a bounce. This usually results in a queue full of bounces trying to be sent to bogus email addresses.

So... Is there anyway to tweak Exim to make :fail: act like it should?

The only reason it wouldn't work is if you have a broken exim configuration, or if you've removed verify = recipient in the exim ACL section (or otherwise allowed relaying before it hits that ACL line. Try resetting exim back to defaults:

/scripts/reseteximtodefaults
