    favicon image must be placed in the www folder. In addition, make sure this HTML directive is there:

    HTML:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

    Close your browser, clear your cache, and try again.

    If you're using IE, click the icon and drag it into the window to reload. Do that a few times and it will show up.

    Checkout the solution

    Make sure that the favicon.ico is in the specific directory for the page your trying to
    bookmark. If it is not, this will also cause it to use the default icon.
    If, after you bookmark the page, it still does not show the icon, check the error logs.
    If you find GET 404 errors, it cannot find the icon.

    Make sure you are using Internet Explorer 5.5 This only works for IE 5.0 and higher.

    Clear your cache, delete your bookmarks and try re-bookmarking them.
    :)

    I investigated...

    It's not a favicon. It's a gif image called favicon.ico. That works with Firefox, Netscape, and possible others, but IE only works with actual ico file types.

    Go to http://www.stmaryrehab.org/favicon.ico in IE and you get a blank image because it's not really there. IE won't open files if they have the wrong extension. For IE, you have to use an icon creator or conversion program to make them.

    Go here: http://www.irfanview.com/

    Download that app and create your fav icon in that, and put it in the root directory of the page you are trying to bookmark.

    Works for me now, even in IE. I still had to do like my first reply, drag the icon into the window 3 times before it appeared, then when I bookmarked it and loaded from the bookmark, it appeared in bookmarks.

    Is a webhost in control of your account (do u have a webhost)? If so, then no. Are you a webhost? If so, then maybe (and I said MAYBE, not YES)
