File Manager - Save file $ip replace

When using the cPanel File Manager to edit a file (a PHP file in this case), the first occurance of $ip* ($ipsclass, $ip, anything) has $ip replaced with the server's IP address.

This is of course causing parse errors on any file that is edited and saved via the File Manager in cPanel. I looked through the bug tracker and was unable to find any reports of this, but we've had this happen on a few servers. What I want to know is this: can anyone duplicate this? If so, does anyone have a suggested fix?
