Hello,

I've read some of the old threads here, about SA and CPU usage, but seem quiet old.

Has anyone come up with a proven way to reduce SA's CPU and Memory usage? We been working on reducing our Spam, which has been greatly reduced over the past week with help from all the great info found here, but now it would be nice if it was possible to trim down the CPU and Memory usage SA seems to cause ... or this the drawback using SA?

TIA,
Mickalo

The gain from SA filtering spams far outweight getting all the spams for no reasons. You are saying that SA takes up a lot of resources but if you don't use SA, you system could be taking even more resources with all those spams coming in.

Moreover, I don't think SA is really that resource hungry compared to having MailScanner. Maybe you have too much SARE running. I think that bigevil or something (I forgot the name) SARE is too big which is already obsolete. Don't use that big(something) SARE file.

Maybe you are hosting too much websites and domains in your server. Time to upgrade....:D

Yes, I agree. I've been working with SA for the past week or so and have reduced our spam by about 95% which makes our customers very happy :)

I have considered Chirpy's MailScanner package but it also has it draws backs. So I'll probably stay with SA as is for awhile as it seems to be doing a good job of reducing spam along with the use of the RulesDuJour add-on.

Now when you say these SARE running, what exactly are you referring too ... the .cf files with the SARE in the filename, IE: 70_sare_evilnum0.cf or is there a specific file or files that shouldn't be used anymore?

Do you also make use of the 'sa-update' utility ?

Thx's
