    Forum database security

I run an SMF forum on my domain that I installed using Fantastico, and it seems as though someone is managing to get content from it that shouldn’t be accessible to him. (Such as other people’s private messages.) I asked someone else how this might be possible, and they suggested that perhaps the database isn’t secured properly and that I should make sure it as well as the database users are password-protected. However, since the database and the forum’s database user were both created automatically with Fantastico, I don’t know how to tell whether they’re password protected or not.

I periodically get SMF database errors from the forum e-mailed to me, which seem to correspond to the times he’s able to get private content from the forum. Can anyone give me an idea how it is exactly that he might be doing this, and how to prevent it?
