Presently we are running Freebsd 8.0 and would like to upgrade to a newer version to avoid potential problems when 8.0 goes EOL on 05/31/11.

I noticed that 8.1 goes EOL in 2013 but 8.2 goes EOL in 2012. Is that a typo or is there some reason a newer FreeBSD is shut down before an older one ?

    FreeBSD 8.0 May 31, 2011
    FreeBSD 8.1 January 31, 2013
    FreeBSD 8.2 August 31, 2012

The EOL dates are based on FreeBSD's own EOL chart dates for each version:

    FreeBSD Security Information

Since the estimated EOL for 8.1 RELEASE is July 31, 2012 and the estimated EOL for 8.2 RELEASE is February 29, 2012, if you add 6 months to each of those dates for our support coverage past the vendor provided EOL date, you end up with January 31, 2013 for 8.1 and August 31, 2012 for 8.2. As such, our dates are correct based on what FreeBSD is gauging for the EOL dates.

Freebsd will not be able to update WHM/CPanel above 11.30, but I just noticed a 11.32 was added to the change log.

Since Freebsd cannot go above that when will updates of 11.30 end ?. I dont mean simple upcp access, but regular updates, including new features and fixes?

I see that only days after 11.29 came out there were no more for 11.28. So now that we see a new 11.32 how long before Cpanel stops making updates for 11.30 ?

This stuff should really be announced and not just sneaked into the changelogs and other hard to find places.

I dont want to have to dump Freebsd all of a sudden because Cpanel stopped updating upcp, but still claims to "support" it.

Little irrelevant, are you planning to drop FreeBSD support in the near future ?

We will only support FreeBSD on 11.30 systems rather than those above 11.30, which does mean FreeBSD itself wouldn't be supported past 11.30. 11.30 has long-term support built into it, so we would provide patches for a period of time once all tiers go to 11.32. Of note, 11.31/11.32 has not even been released into EDGE tier at this point.

cPanel & WHM 11.30 has a projected life span of 18 months, measured from the time 11.30 first reached the STABLE tier (see the table at the bottom of this page: System Requirements for cPanel & WHM 11.30 Installation). Over the course of its lifespan it will continue to receive updates, primarily in the form of critical fixes. If there is a change needed to assure compatibility with a future version of cPanel & WHM, that change may be made available to 11.30. That is the general guideline for all Long Term Support releases of cPanel & WHM, not just 11.30.

Once version 11.32 begins publishing there will be a lessening in the frequency of 11.30 updates. Around that time the updates will switch to roughly one release per LTS version per quarter.
