Hello,

I'am thinking of using cpanel on freebsd systems. But I see that that on the supported system page freebsd is only supported up to 5.4.
I want to use freebsd 6.1 (witch was releasd in may 2006) or freebsd 5.5.

Would it be posible to get support on these freebsd versions? or when do you
think these versions do get supported?

I have sent a mail to cpanel sales but I didn't get a reply yet.

Thanks!

Hi there,

cPanel does work on FreeBSD 6.1 (64 bit and 32 bit). They don’t officially "support" it, by support they mean if you have a technical issue and contact their support they may or may not be able to provide assistance.

We're running almost 40 servers on FreeBSD 5.x and 6.1 with cPanel without any problems whatsoever. There’s a few things you'll need to do to ensure it works, though. We install the compat4 and 5 ports, cPanel doesn’t recognise some of the new .so files in FreeBSD 6.1 and so needs the added compatibility. For courier-imap to install, you'll need to reinstall gmdb via ports:

cd /usr/ports/databases/gdbm && make deinstall && make reinstall

cPanel is much more forgiving Re: tinkering within the system than some other control panels.
