Can shared IP users use FrontPage?

CPanel says extensions are installed and nothing changes when the reseller clicks (Re)install Extensions in CPanel.

of course shared Ip users can use frontpage very well.

When you create the account it has an option whether to install the frontpage extensions or not. if you do select it - the extensions are installed and ppl can use it with the same username and password which they have for their main account.

why do they need to re-install the extensions when they are already installed??

    best regards

    Make sure user publishes properly

Be sure the FrontPage user uses http://www.domain.com to publish there site to or FrontPage will not recognize the extensions being in the right area and will try to FTP

Yes, shared IP users can use FP. FP extensions should be installed on the first account set up on that IP as well, to allow users to publish prior to their domain resolves to your server. To publish before the domain resolves to the box (or at any time), they can use the following:

    http://sharedip/~theirusername/public_html/

This assumes, of course, that FP extensions are installed on that first account as mentioned above. And there's always publishing to the domain name if it's already resolving to the server.

    Hi Annette,

seems like http://boxip/~user/ used to work at some point for publishing new sites before domain resolution. Today for the first time in quite some time I am trying to get it to work and can't. FP is installed on the main - first account also. Doesn't seem to work.

Can you or anyone confirm that this still should work or has something changed with FP?

    thanks ;)

Two items: with the FP update before this last one, publishing to a site on a shared IP is no longer viable, and hasn't been for some time - although we've heard of scattered instances where it has worked. For most, this isn't a big deal (and gets clients on the train to update their DNS to get the domain pointed to the server). You could assign them an IP, either permanently or temporarily, to allow them to publish prior to DNS resolution. If they're using FP98, and you've updated to the latest FP extensions, they're simply out of luck, as FP98 is not supported by the latest extension set. We have been recommending users of FP98 upgrade to a newer, supported version of FP when they write in telling us they are unable to publish.
