I am having a problem with my FTP account that are being created in Cpanel. They are returning the error "530 Login incorrect" even when the password is correct. Now FTP is working with the cpanel username and password, it just will not work for the ftp accounts that are created in Cpanel. I do have a firewall installed on the server but to make sure it was not the problem, I disabled it and the problem still persisted. Anyone know what could cause this to happen?

The same thing is happening to me. I have created a user on the file system for FTP backup. Basically the two servers backup to each other. It seems as though after an update this week, I am no longer able to login either way.

I have reset the password on both servers, but it doesn't resolve the issue.

One of our clients is having a somewhat similar problem with his ftp account. He is using Ipswitch FTP Professional vers 12 to connect. He claims nothing has changed on his end, but as of approximately 12/20/2010 his userid has to be all lowercase to work. Prior to that he says his mixed cased userid worked. Apparently he has scripts set up that has the userid in numerous places, so just changing the userid to all lowercase is an effort. Has anything changed in CPanel in regard to the FTP userids being case sensitive in the last few weeks? i have verified I can connect with his userid as long as it's all lower case.

There is an issue and according to cpanel tech support it is issue #45758 and possibly due to be repaired in the 11.28.66 update. I have been getting beat up by clients for a couple weeks now due to this.. I wish they would get it fixed soon.

Hello,

Case #45758 involves case sensitivity for FTP usernames where previously FTP usernames were case insensitive in 11.26 and switched to being case sensitive in 11.28. Is your issue using caps when having created the FTP username and not using them when logging into FTP for that user? If it is not, then please open a ticket using WHM > Support Center > Contact cPanel or via the link in my signature as your issue is unrelated to the bug report opened. Please also post your ticket number here after opening it if you do open a ticket.

Of note, the bug has been fixed in 11.28.68. You can see the versions released at this location:

cPanel versions for each tier

Right now, STABLE, RELEASE and CURRENT are all slightly under 11.28.68, while EDGE is 11.28.69

Thanks.

Found workaround for Release 11.28.64. Assume domain.com with account user domainuser. Added new user via cpanel FTP Accounts interface. Added user [email protected]. Cpanel created user [email protected] (converted to lower case).

Logged on as root and then:

Edited /etc/proftpd/<domainuser> and changed "abc" to "Abc".

Then executed /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpupdate

This updated the passwd.vhosts and passwd.vhosts.cache files.

After the above changes, user "[email protected]" appeared correctly as mixed case in the cpanel FTP Accounts interface. Changing quota and password did not revert this to lower case. FTP test to user "[email protected]" works successfully.
