    Hello,

If the FTP backup option is used in WHM backup, does this backup the entire cPanel installtiion including mySQL databases, mailboxes, lists etc., or just home directories?

    Thanks.

It backs up all the information required to restore each cPanel account, including those that you have listed. It does not perform the additional back that the full backup does which includes system directories and files that you might need for a complete server rebuild.

    Thanks.

So if we need to rebuild the server, is it a case of re-installing Linux and cPanel and then restoring the FTP backup to get back to a fully restored system?
Can we simply point the restore at the FTP server to accomplish this?

    Thanks!

You would need to setup cPanel as you had it before (e.g. same package and feature set names and options) and WHM configuration. You would then need to copy back the FTP backup tarballs and then you can restore them through WHM. I don't believe you can restore via FTP.

No, we cannot restore from ftp. Idealy, I find it best to create the backup locally (example: /backup/cpbackup/weekly), then use a script to zip up the /backup/cpbackup/weekly directory. Then send the zip file to the off-server locale. This saves bandwidth in tranferring both ways :)
