FTP delay

    Do you know anything that might cause a 30 seconds delay when connecting to FTP? but once it connects the speed is fast.

    try to access your ftp having disabled your firewall (if you have one!). See if the problem is still there without having the firewall on. Also I was once adviced that such problems may be caused by the lack of reverse dns entry for my ip (dial up connection)-(not sure if this is correct).

    Your server is probably doing a reverse dns lookup on your when you connect, you can edit this in your proftpd.conf
