FTP Remote Backup

I'm sorry if this is a "noob" question, but I haven't been working with WHM/Cpanel long. I want to have remote FTP backups run weekly. Can my FTP server be running Windows or does it have to be Linux?

Thank you! I was just wondering because of the way the settings are labeled in WHM.
