First off my apologies if this appears to be a cpanel question but i think for me it has more whm query.
I want to back up one of my sites from a shared hosting (different server) to my dedicated server. The shared hosting doesn't allow ssh access and the database is larger than 250mb so that option is out of the question.
I can however, use the shared hosting cpanel to generate a full backup and send it to my server or home directory.
Is it best to send it to my server, if so i'm a little confused where to send it to, should i send it to the ftp of the host or the ftp of the account i want to use it in.

How do you restore it from cpmove ?? It says type the username of the account you want to restore,,, is this the name of the tar.gz

    Confused.

Place the cpmove-username.tar.gz file in /home and you will be able to select (or type) the username of your old account from the shared provider.

    Ok, i don't believe this.
I am struggling to find my correct ftp address for /home. I have tried the ip and root + password (page not found),,, whm url and root + password and host.xxxx.net + Root and pass. EEK, where is the ftp for server /home.

For security reasons, ftp won't give you access to system directories and /home is a system directory (in fact, more correctly, ftp won't give you access to anything but the account home directory). You should never try to ftp to a box as root.

So, you can ftp the files to a user directory and then move them to /home (or even /home2 works with restorepkg/cpanel restore).

Or, you can use scp which works via ssh and is probably the best method.
